SPECIAL SERVICE -
Picking up documents from your workplace.
If the document for which you need the Apostille happens to a copy of something that needs to be notarized, I may be able to drive to your workplace in the lower mainland. An example of this would be notarizing a copy of a passport. As notaries are only permitted to notarize while physically in their own countries, I would be accepting your papers, notarizing them in my office in Bellingham, and then sending them on to the Apostille agency. Travel fees for this service depend on the distance I must travel and start at $75. Please call me for a more thorough explanation and total fee quote. (604) 484-3681

NOTARIZED COPY OF PASSPORT
Professional Notary may notarize a copy of your passport. This is also known as certifying a copy. Provide both the original and a photocopy at the appointment.

BIRTH CERTIFICATES
When applying for a passport, you must submit an old passport or a certified copy of your birth certificate. Certified copies of US birth certificates may only be obtained from the issuing agency in your birth state. (Professional Notary is happy to notarize a copy of a non-US birth certificate.) In some states, you are required to contact your birth county's office.

In Whatcom County, birth certificates may be obtained at
Vital Records, Whatcom County Health Department
509 Girard Street, Bellingham, WA

Locate the agency in your birth state issuing certified birth certificates and then contact them to discover what they require (form or letter, fee, etc).

If you wish to obtain a copy by mail, the request letter or form must be notarized.

Nexus also requires a certified copy of your birth certificate to obtain their fast-lane card.

PERMISSION LETTER FOR TRAVELING CHILDREN
To help prevent child abduction, border control officers are much more strict regarding letters of permission written by non-accompanying parents. It is sad that this regulation must be put in place. But like the Amber Alert system, it is very helpful in safeguarding our children. If a child is not traveling with both parents, a notarized letter of permission is required.
